"You Wanna Pepsi?"

This week was exciting and had a lot of ups and downs for sure. President surprised the mission with a transfer in the middle of the transfer. He made changes to about thirty missionaries so the majority of Tuesday and Wednesday was spent figuring that out. We ended up taking a 7 hour road trip to Wisconsin and then to the southern part of Minnesota. We stopped in Wisconsin for some cheese curd burgers which blew my mind and also probably a few arteries in my heart but it was worth it.
We have been teaching a part member couple for the last two weeks and the husband has set a date for May 9th. They have both been off smoking for the last couple days and they quit at the same time so there has been a lot of stress for the both of them. It is crazy the stuff people do when they are breaking a bad habit. They are doing really well though and they are super fun to teach. They are Georgia and they love fried chicken, basketball, and singing like baptists so there is never a dull moment with them.
Had a cool experience last night. We were on our way to a dinner appointment and felt like we needed to stop by a less active real quick who is Spanish. When we got there the less active wasn't there but her grandparents who are super active were both there. Luckily Elder King speaks Spanish so they talked and found out that the wife had cancer. She still hadn't received a blessing and so we offered one. When her husband gave the first part of the blessing in Spanish it was so spiritual and he started balling and then after Elder King finished the blessing they were both crying. It was a really neat moment and then after they got a hold of themselves the wife looked up at me with this big smile and said in broken english, "You wanna Pepsi?" I laughed so hard.
So yeah things are going well and the people here are super cool so I love it. Have a good week.

look out boys... I'm gettin good

Something Pretty Awkward

The good news is that Tanner and Misa aren't the only ones getting married. The parents of the family of 7 that we are teaching are currently just Hmong married but are planning to meet this next Sunday to talk to our branch president about getting legally married so it looks like everything is going well for all of them. The dad's grandma died this last week so they weren't able to make it to church but we doorbell ditched them and left them a note with some cookies. The Law of Chastity lesson that we taught them this last Thursday was probably the funniest thing ever. I almost started crying. Elder Morrow (bless his heart,) started off with ,"Today we're going to teach you about something pretty awkward." I started laughing because he was so nervous and after that he eased up and the lesson went great.
These past couple weeks, one of the coolest stories on my mission has been unfolding. Elder Morrow and I have been teaching a homeless guy named Vang. He has been coming to church for the past 5 weeks and really wants to change his life but feels like he is just stuck in a rut. The one thing keeping him back from baptism has been smoking since he has been smoking since he was 8 years old. Before we began teaching him, he was an atheist, thought God was a joke, and told us that he knew without a doubt that there was nothing after this life. After his prayers, reading the scriptures, coming to church, and several priesthood blessings, he has changed so much. You can see it on his face. We invited him this last week to pick his own baptism date and he picked Feb. 17th. It was so crazy when he chose that. It is super soon but just yesterday, Vang gave up smoking for good. Boom! So awesome.
Also, our investigator Mong and his wife Nag came to church yesterday. After sacrament our branch president invited them to meet with them in his office and they apparently had a great talk so it's looking good for him as well.
All is well here and best wishes to Tanner and Misa. Looks like it was a great wedding. Tsuas yog kuv tsis nrog nej sawv daws nyob xwb. :)

Sorry it's kind of hard to set aside time to think about school stuff. I will be doing block classes this fall. It means you start halfway through the semester and still get all the credits you just go to school twice as much. I thought about it and felt that if I come home early to start in September then I will feel I did not finish all that I set out to do. Call the mission office if you have questions.

The Slaughterhouse

Hey everybody it's labor day so looks lik a short email on my end. Here is what I did last week.
1. Killed a pig and gutted it.
2. Converted an ex convict (That was more the Spirit but I got to watch.)
3. Said goodbye to a bunch of missionaries that I grew up in the mission with :(
4. Watched a couple get sealed in the temple. Unfortunately a few hours after the sealing the mother had a miscarriage. Saddest thing ever
5. Found out Elder Moss is getting transfered out to Eau Claire and Elder Hardy will be back with me. Really bittersweet moment because Elder Moss and I had such great success together and so I'm pretty sad he's leaving but Elder Hardy is one of my best friends because we served out in Eau Claire so I'm glad to be back serving with him   #FeelingTorn hahaha

Love you all and have a good week.

Uff Da

Yeah I don't know what that word means either but for some reason everyone here says it. I'll get back to you on that once I find out. Sounds like things are going great back home with Tanner, James, and Libby's birthdays. Also that is super cool about Jesse Robinson. It sounds like he is really changing people's lives and doing a lot of good. I hope that I can learn from his example and honor James the same way that he is honoring his brother Tyler.

To answer a few of your questions. My apartment is HUGE. We have two rooms and a kitchen which is always a plus. We actually have a ward out here but only about 15 Hmong people come each week. My companion and I do english and Hmong work which at first when I heard I was a little sad because I love the Hmong people so much but then I met the Rednecks of Wisconsin and I honestly could not be happier. I say Rednecks of Wisconsin because they literally call themselves that. Most of the white people we teach live in trailer parks and it is by far one of the funniest things in my life to teach them. All of them have guns and they are not afraid to use them, one of the main purposes in life for them is to fish, and if your not a Green Bay Packers fan, then in their mind your pretty much worse than dirt. There is also quite a few Hmong people here which is nice and we have the opportunity to do some fun things to get the work going. We are starting up weekly volleyball to get the Hmong people to start coming and also create an easy environment to find new investigators. Our mission president and our ward mission leader said we can do pretty much whatever we want(as long as we don't break the rules) to get the Hmong work going so I'm really excited to get creative and help build their faith here. The biggest thing that suprised me so far was just the town of Eau Claire. Honestly it's pretty weird but I love it. Are apartment building is right next to a Mason temple and we have a huge community of Amish people right on the edge of town. Can't wait to go tract out there. I just hope they don't look down on me because I don't have as awesome as a beard as they do.

One family that we are teaching is the K family. The mom is less active but is beginning to come back to activity. They are your typical Wisconsin family. 8 people live in a two bedroom trailer, they have 11 cats (2 are dead in the freezer), 3 dogs, and a huge python not in a pear tree. The first time I went to teach them it was so hard to focus I'll be honest. There was cats flying everywhere, a ginormous dog that they shoved in a closet barking and trying to escape, and a 5 foot python slithering around. Needless to say it takes a true man to teach Wisconsin style. I really do love this family though and they are doing really well. Four of the kids are planning to get baptized on the 12th. One of them isn't accountable, the dad doesn't have a problem with his kids going but he doesn't want to, and one of them is just now beginning to show interest. Really exciting to teach and I have a lot of funny stories already about just different things that they do.

The miracle for this week will be a young man named J. Elder Hardy and I (just realized I haven't mentioned him but he is a bigger beast then King Kong) were doing are weekly planning session when we both felt inspired to call this guy who's name and number was just on a piece of paper in the apartment. He answered the phone and told us that he knew a lot of Mormons and his family who were members would be in town this week and he said he wanted to come to church with them. We told him that we would see him there. He showed up to church two days later and we are now just beginning to teach him the lessons. Super cool experience with just following promptings of the Spirit and receiving blessings for it.

That's all for this week but I love you all. Sorry dad but neither of us know the address to the apartment. The sleep deprivation of my mission has definitely caused some short term memory problems (Im just kidding). But I guess it's better to live in the now right. Tanner in response to your letter.       Ok now I'm really done. Love you all and have a great week. Also fam you should all put a picture of Christ up in our home and send me the pic of it hanging up on the wall. I can't send you pictures until you send me a picture of that hanging up back. (plus I forgot my camera cord thingy today so I can't send them anyways). Dad one great idea for home teaching is instead of doing the regular visit thing. Invite each family over for dinner once in a month. So if you teach four families. Go do the regular visit with three and then maybe invite one of them over for a Sunday dinner. And then after four months all the families on your list will have had a chance to get to know you and our family better. Just an idea. BYEEEEEEEEE

The Most Humble and Funny People

Me and my companion Elder Xiong
Hey yall
So this first week in the mission has been the funniest and coolest week of my life so far. I thought that they were sending me to minnesota but I think that they put me on the wrong plane because this place is crazy. So first of all my companion and I are in east side st paul. When we were driving to our apartment the first night my companion told me that our area was the most ghetto area in the mission and at first I didn't believe him but then I saw the apartment and I started laughing so hard. And also the first night I fell asleep to police sirens and like thirty gun shots so yeah it's pretty sweet. Hahaha just kidding mom I'm perfectly safe and I love it here. One of the things that suprised me was how many Hmong people are here. Almost everyone that I live around is Hmong. They are defintiely the most humble and funny people I have ever met. My companion is actually a native Hmong and I absolutely love him. His name is Elder Xiong. He is from Miluakee and has been out in the mission for 5 months. Him and I are the 2 youngest missionaries out here and he is the missionary with the least experience besides all the new missionaries but he is such a stud. He is a super hard worker and loves to serve. It has been so crazy because he doesn't really speak english. He came over from Thailand a few years ago but he didn't go to school so he never learned how to read and write or anything like that. So during language study he teaches me Hmong for thirty minutes and then I teach him english. We have a lot of fun together and so I'm really happy about it.

So my first full day in the field was really cool. We have a rule in our mission that you have to commit someone to be baptized within the first 24 hours of your plane hitting the ground. So my companion and I were tracting and it was about 3 o clock(and my plane had landed at about 6 the day before) so we didnt have much time left. We found a man who was raking his leaves and started to help him. We taught him the full restoration and I invited him to be baptized and he said yes!!!!! I was so excited. We came back 2 days later to teach him some more but he was having a shaman party so that one kind of fell through. One thing that they should have told me is that when someone says they will be baptized it doesnt mean that you got it in the bag. But it's all good though because it was a good experience. But the first day my companion and I invited 3 people to be baptized it was so crazy. One of them actuallly has been progressing and has a date in mid january.
My favorite experience so far this week was teaching the Tswv Tuam family. The dad is a member but his wife and three kids are not members. My companion and I went over to teach them the plan of salvation. (Also side note they are married in the Hmong way not the legal way.) So at the end of the lesson we invited all four of them to be baptized and they all said yes. Also the wife and the husband are talking to the branch president on sunday to set a date for their wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It was so crazy and the spirit was so strong in the lesson. We are so excited to keep teaching them and their family loves us. It turns out that all hmong people love white people who try and speak hmong so we get in to almost every house and the whole family comes and just stares at me because they dont really believe it and it's pretty funny to see their face when I start speaking. The Hmong people are really funny and they love to feed you as well. The Tswv Tuam family fed my companion and I some traditional Hmong food and my tongue almost caught on fire because they put like three thai peppers on my plate that I had to eat.

Things are going well and I am loving it here. thanks so much for all your letters.
